THEORY IS THE FOUNDATION

What happens after ELDT?

For Class A and Class B applicants, completing online ELDT theory is only one part of the federal training process. Before the state CDL skills test, you must also complete applicable behind-the-wheel range and public-road training with a provider listed on the FMCSA Training Provider Registry.

Your state licensing steps, permit validity, medical certification, and testing procedures still apply. Keep your documents current and make sure your name, date of birth, license or permit number, and issuing state are accurate.

Important:

There is no federal minimum number of behind-the-wheel hours, but the registered instructor must cover the required curriculum and determine that you are proficient in each required skill.
